Obituary - Don Hesselgesser
Don Hesselgesser

Born in Delta, Utah on September 16, 1939, to John R. and Helen Mae (Tolbert) Hesselgesser, Don Hesselgesser passed away at home suddenly and unexpectedly on January 23, 2023, at the age of 83.

Don graduated from White Pine County High School in spring of 1958. Don joined the Operating Engineers Local #3. He worked on many of the highways in Northern Nevada.

He married Elaine Hibel on December 16, 1959, and together they raised three sons. During this time Don worked as a truck driver/salesman for Mooremans Livestock Feed and Northrup King Seeds.

In later years he began breeding, raising and training mules. He leveled fields, harvested hay, and traveled the 40 Mile Desert Wagon Trail Crossing twice. He participated in Parades and 4H events with his mules that he deeply loved.

Don is survived by his wife of 63 years Elaine Hesselgesser, his three sons John Hesselgesser and wife Rhonda of Silver Springs, NV, and Robert Hesselgesser of Carlin, NV, and Don William Hesselgesser of Fallon, Nv., his 12 grandchildren, and seven Great-Grandchildren. Don is also survived by his two brothers John Dee Hesselgesser and wife Yolanda of Sparks, Nv, Harry Sherman Hesslgesser of Portland, OR, and sister Darlene Wyllie of Elko, Nv., as well as numerous nieces and nephews and the many that adopted him as their Grandpa Don.

The services will be held at a later date. The arrangements will be held at The Gardens Funeral Home.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
