Hearts of Gold Quilters ready for Cantaloupe Festival

Hearts of Gold Quilters ready for Cantaloupe Festival
by Leanna Lehman —  Local quilters showcase their latest prize quilt for raffle at the Soroptimists Home and Garden Show this weekend. Nearly 30 years ago a group of Fallon quilters assembled together to share their love of the craft and their community. With about 20 active quilters contributing to projects year round, the Hearts of Gold Quilters donate quilts to several community organizations including Churchill County Domestic Violence Intervention, Care-Net, The Wishing Tree and local children in foster care. Each year, one project makes its way from hundreds of patchwork squares into a museum quality heirloom quilt. This year’s annual community quilt, “Crystal Prisms” was unveiled at the Home and Garden Show and will be raffled at this year’s Cantaloupe Festival. The community quilt is the result of 100+ woman-hours of detailed quilting work, camaraderie, and community dedication. Proceeds from the raffle fund the many quilts that are donated throughout the year.  Tickets can be purchased through Sunday the Garden Show or through selected local merchants until the Cantaloupe Festival raffle. In addition to completing a variety of quilting projects, Hearts of Gold Quilters participated in April’s community “Just Serve” week.  Members gathered at the Convention Center to sew whimsical pillowcases for Ryan’s Case for Smiles. Designed to give children an emotional boost, the non-profit helps them cope with the experience of being hospitalized while dealing with cancer and other major illnesses. The quilters brought their own fabric as well as working from kits and completed an impressive 80 pillowcases in a couple of days. Hearts of Gold Quilters, as seen in their beautiful works and community devotion, really do have “hearts of gold.” Raffle tickets can be purchased at: Jeff's Copy Express, 3-D Shipping, Workman Farms, and at the Convention Center on Thursdays between 9AM-4PM. https://www.facebook.com/goldheartquilters/   Never miss a meeting or community event – keep an eye on the community calendar at https://www.thefallonpost.org/events/ If you like what we’re doing, please support our effort to provide local, independent news and contribute to The Fallon Post, your online news source for all things Fallon.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
