Spring Wings Bird Festival May 11, 201

Spring Wings Bird Festival May 11, 201
Submitted courtesy of the Spring Wings Committee -- Fallon, Nevada – Come celebrate the spring migration through the Lahontan Valley Wetlands! Spring Wings Bird Festival is for anyone interested in birds, nature and the great outdoors. You don’t have to be an expert “birder” to enjoy the activities we have to offer.  The Festival is the celebration of the songbirds, shorebirds, and waterfowl returning to the Lahontan Valley from all over the western world and we highlight our special Nevada habitat. From 9am to 4pm enjoy displays and interactive educational presentations at the William N. Pennington Life Center in Fallon for free – browse and take part in those activities at your leisure. From live birds to live bugs, we have it all. Plenty of activities geared for youngsters and the young at heart! Check our website for presentation times. A bird carving seminar will be offered by the Pacific Flyway Decoy Association. Wood and knife are provided and you walk away with your own hand-carved piece of art. Price of seminar is $25 ages 15+. For those who want to participate in the tours around the Lahontan Valley, registration prices are $10-$25, sign-up online.  At 6:00pm, share your birding stories with old and new friends over a casual dinner, $35.00.  Pre-registration is highly recommended. Please visit our website for more information: www.springwingsbirdfestival.org  Spring Wings is funded in part by a grant from the City of Fallon.   Never miss a meeting or community event – keep an eye on the community calendar at https://www.thefallonpost.org/events/ If you like what we’re doing, please support our effort to provide local, independent news and contribute to The Fallon Post, your online news source for all things Fallon.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear. I remember her fondly from the days of my youth at Northside Elementary, many years ago. She and Mrs. Rowe were my favorite office ladies! I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
