The Pages: A Novel by Hugo Hamilton

The Pages: A Novel by Hugo Hamilton

In an interesting literary twist, the narrator of this book is a book, Joseph Roth’s Rebellion. Having survived a Nazi book burning in 1933, it is now in the hands of Lena Knecht who is traveling from New York to Berlin to try to figure out the hand-drawn map in the back of the book.

The reader is taken through Roth’s life (he was a real person) for an examination of censorship and brutal oppression. Hamilton manages to include a lot of information, ideas, and history in this novel in a way that really packs a punch.

One of the best I’ve had the pleasure to read in a long time.

This title is available in print at the Library.

Carol is the Director of the Churchill County Library. Rebellion is one of the books featured this Friday night at the Library fundraiser, “Book, Bites, & Beverages.” The event begins at 6:30 and tickets are available.
