Fallon Tribal Police Seize More Than 180 Pounds of Marijuana

The Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribal Police issued a press release stating that on February 28, they seized approximately 180 pounds of illicit marijuana and 725 grams of concentrated Cannabutter.

Cannabutter is a concentrated marijuana product processed with butter or margarine. The drugs were seized from a residence on Pinenut Drive on the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Reservation.

According to Tribal Police, officers were investigating an unrelated matter and obtained consent from a resident to enter the house where the drugs were located. Upon entering the residence, officers observed over 10 pounds of marijuana out in the open.

Upon securing the scene, Tribal Officers obtained a search warrant from the Tribal Court, which was then executed. The search resulted in the discovery of large amounts of marijuana in various states of being processed, apparently in the preparation and production of Cannabutter.

The suspects have been identified and charges are forthcoming.

The Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe recently exempted its members from prosecution for the possession of one ounce or less of marijuana and one eighth or less of concentrated marijuana product with the passage of The Fallon Paiute Shoshone Law and Order Code Title 17 – Use of Marijuana. However, it is still illegal and prosecutable under Code Title 5.70.100 to possess more marijuana than the exemption allows.
