Twenty years after 19 terrorists hijacked four planes and killed more than 3,000 people in the worst act of terrorism committed on American soil, the City of Fallon will remember those who lost their lives and the first responders who rushed into harm’s way.

Fallon Mayor Ken Tedford and Congressional Representative Mark Amodei will be the keynote speakers as the City of Fallon hosts its 20th Annual 9/11 Remembrance, honoring the heroes who gave their lives on 9/11 and honoring the first responders and the victims on the 20th anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

That day, the terrorists crashed two planes into the World Trade Center in New York City and another into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C, while a fourth jet crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers stormed the cockpit to try to regain control from the hijackers.

Saturday’s ceremony will include an invocation by a local pastor, a rendition of the national anthem from Churchill County High School, as well as a moment of silence, a 21-gun salute, and a ceremonial placing of roses on the monument.

Originally dedicated in 2002, the City of Fallon’s 9/11 Memorial features a fragment of a steel beam from The World Trade Center.

Other City of Fallon representatives will include Councilman James Richardson and Councilwoman Kelly Frost and Karla Kent.

The ceremony will begin promptly at 11 a.m. at the City of Fallon’s 9/11 Memorial behind City Hall at 755 W Williams Ave, Fallon, NV on Saturday, September 11, 2021. This is an outdoor event.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
