There were two applications on deck at the Fallon City Council meeting Monday, continuing what has been a flurry of small business activity this summer.

The council approved an application by Carina Alaniz for a liquor license for the new restaurant, Los Gallos, that will be located at 1770 W. Williams Avenue, after questions by Councilman James Richardson about the location of the bar inside what used to be the old Vin Pho building. Additionally, they approved a restricted gaming license for seven slot machines at the Golden Gate Petroleum station at 1625 West Williams Avenue. The new application will replace machines that were at the old Golden Gate facility before their expansion/remodel.

During the meeting Mayor Ken Tedford also reported on the extensive power outage on the previous day, Sunday, caused when a pelican hit a power line near Lahontan Reservoir. He expressed appreciation to city crews and NV Energy staff who worked efficiently to bring the power back on.

“It just goes to show you what a little something like that can do,” he said. “Small things like that, at the worst times when you have extreme use of electricity when the A/C is running and extreme heat. We got through that very quickly and our power team worked very hard from the water treatment plant to the traffic lights.”

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
