The Lahontan Valley Claybreakers attended a pre-season California Youth Shooting Sports Association (CYSSA) trap shoot at Coon Creek on March 13 and another in Carson City on March 27.

Claybreakers coaches Pat and Wayne Whitten, along with Board President Barry Stewart and Vice President Josh Haggard made a presentation this week to the Churchill County Commission asking Commissioners. The CYSSA shoot will be held in Fallon on April 10, bringing in 144 shooters and their families on a rotating schedule throughout the weekend. Additionally, the Nevada Youth Sport Shooting Association shoot will be held on May 18 in Fallon, hosting four to five clubs this year.

One of the challenges this year is the drastic shortage of ammunition. “Shotgun ammunition is difficult to find right now,” said Stewart. He then introduced Haggard, an active-duty helicopter pilot stationed at NAS Fallon. His daughter Alexis, one of the youngest shooters in the club shot her first 50 straight last week at a pre-season shoot in California. “Your local support and funding really help subsidize the cost for local families,” said Haggard. “Without it and other grants we receive it is almost impossible to get the cost down to actually promote the education aspect for students, it is monumental for us to continue.” Haggard said his daughter has thrived in the program with an increase in responsibility and self-confidence.

The high school rodeo was held in Alamo, Nevada the weekend of March 27, and will be in Spanish Springs the weekend of April 10. There are have five more regular rodeos before the state rodeo, which will be held in Winnemucca. The 2021-2022 rodeo season will start in August this year, and there are 15 regular rodeos are anticipated before the state competition.

The National Archery in School’s Program tournament was held on March 10 with archers from Churchill County High School and Oasis Academy shooting virtually from their respective gyms.

Coach Zach Woodward said of his Oasis archers, “all our kids shot really well. Wyatt Ricks received 3rd place in the NASP Nevada state tournament. He shot a score of 208 out of a possible 300. He is in the elementary division (4th and 5th grade students) as a 5th grade student. He ranked number 2 out of 16 in 5th grade boys and 39 out of 73 in overall boys ranging from 4th grade level to 12th grade. We are having one more tournament, the NASP National Tournament with some of the kids in late April.”

The CCHS archers won the State Tournament for the seventh time in ten years under Coach Dean Schultz.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
