There are two dates coming up for people wishing to offer volunteer time and give service to the community. April 17 is JustServe Day, and the annual Keep Fallon Green City Clean up begins on April 19.

Terra Koenig and Bus Scharmann are heading up the JustServe projects and asking that anyone who wants to work on a community project to register on the JustServe.org website. Volunteers can search the site by clicking on the Projects tab, viewing the project needs for organizations within the community. There are several community projects listed for Fallon, and many more are expected to be posted before April 17. “This is just a great day for families to get together and do service that helps others or makes the community better,” said Scharmann.

“It doesn’t have to be spectacular. Sometimes it’s the small and simple acts of service that mean the most. Walking a friend’s dog, sharing a smile, paying it forward in the drive-through, holding the door open for someone,” said Koenig. Scharmann added that in doing the special community service JustServe day on April 17, it gives people time to offer help to those in need who are taking advantage of the City of Fallon Cleanup Week that will run from April 19 through the 23.

For the past 19 years, the City of Fallon has offered Clean-up Week each spring. “Your city crews work hard every day to keep the city clean and green,” said Mayor Ken Tedford, “but we can’t do it without your help.”  During Clean-up Week, city crews are available to haul away any unwanted items. They are joined by elected officials and volunteers who all pitch in to clean the city and keep it clean and green. City crews will move old refrigerators and the Mayor has even been known for moving a very large couch out of an elderly woman’s home one year.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
