A band that has been my favorite for quite some time now is Weezer. Within the last few days, the group released a new album entitled OK Human. The album, like many musicians during this time, has a different sound and creative approach due to coronavirus restrictions. Weezer is extremely well known for a punk or alternative rock sound popular to that of the 90s or early 2000s. While that genre still exists in the new album, the sound is different for one specific and interesting reason. Weezer’s new album was recorded with a 38-piece orchestra.
While the album still has the sound of other Weezer songs, the addition of an orchestral element allowed Weezer’s front man, Rivers Cuomo, to make the songs mellow for longer periods of time before reaching a punched-up chorus that most come to expect from the band. This new album also has fantastically intricate album cover art that gives the overall album more interest. It was fun for me to hear where the new Weezer is headed, while being able to enjoy what I always loved about them in their newly released album.
