Most Nevadans Plan to Receive the Coronavirus Vaccine

As COVID-19 continues to dominate the news, the issue of vaccine sis becoming equally as prominent. With vaccines now being administered to those other than front-line health care workers and first responders, many Nevada residents are gearing up to receive their doses. While not everyone is on-board with the idea of the new vaccine, recent data shows that the majority of people in the Silver State, as well as health care professionals, plan on receiving the vaccine.

University of Nevada Reno’s School of Medicine, in collaboration with Immunize Nevada and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services, has been conducting studies in an effort to assess Nevadans' understanding and attitudes of the COVID-19 vaccine. The most recent survey found that 65% of people stated that they are likely to get the vaccine once it becomes available. Approximately 77% of health care workers reported that they are likely to get the vaccine, with 83% of them stating that they would recommend getting the vaccine to their patients.
In a press release on January 13th, Mark Riddle, M.D., Dr.Ph., Associate Dean of clinical research, professor at UNR Medical Department, and a lead investigator on the study, stated “While it’s not exactly certain, public health experts suggest that herd protection (or community immunity) will require 80 to 90% of the population to be vaccinated.”

The survey is completely anonymous, according to UNR’s communication manager, Tessa Bowen. The survey asks questions about who the participants are, and what they know and think about COVID-19, the COVID-19 vaccine, and information sources. The survey can be completed in about 10 minutes and participants may pick and choose what questions they would like to answer. The survey can only be completed online.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
