Raymond Plasse Receives Westfall Scholar Sward

Churchill County High School graduate, Raymond Plasse was named as one of the 12 prestigious Fall 2020 Westfall Scholars, at the University of Nevada, Reno. The awards were given during a virtual ceremony last week, with remarks by professors and the nominees.

Plasse was a recipient for the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. The Westfall Scholars are the graduating students for the Fall and Spring semesters from each academic department who have the highest cumulative GPA.

He graduated first in his class in 2017 from Churchill County High School and participated in the Jump Start Program with Western Nevada College, earning an associate degree upon high school graduation. He immediately put himself through college, choosing the University of Nevada and graduated on December 5th with two bachelor’s degrees: a Bachelor of Arts Summa Cum Laude and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Mathematics, Summa Cum Laude.

An Eagle Scout, who works at Red Hawk golf course, Plasse is 21 years old and enjoys golfing outside of his studies.

Plasse is the son of Ed and Sandra Plasse, who have been married for 23 years. Sandra works full time at Hiskett and Sons, and Ed has been an Aircraft mechanic at NAS Fallon, for 30 plus years.

They also have one daughter Melanie Plasse, who is 17 and following Raymond's lead. She is currently number one in the Jump Start program and will graduate this May 2021 with her AA and transfer to a University as well. She is the Senior Class President and staying as busy as she can in this unusual time in history.

Comment author: Claude EzzellComment text: Paul was one of the most manifest men I have ever met. He was a good friends with my Dad and always had an entertaining story for the occasion. One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear.
