Churchill County School District trustees met this week and heard a presentation by Deena Porretta who shared information about the Middle School PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) program and the positive data that has been gathered since this program was started in 2018.

Superintendent Summer Stephens reported that as of December 15, 2020, there has been 53 positive COVID-19 student tests and 24 positive staff tests.

As of December 10, 2020, Churchill County School District’s total enrollment for grades PK-12 was 3,210 students. The Board members thanked Trustee Pinder during this, his last school board meeting, for his commitment to students and education during his 43 years of service.

Stephens explained to the Board that with the expiration of some district funds, there will be a spending freeze at the district level until more information is received on what funding will look like in the next year.

Christi Fielding, Comptroller, reported on the fiscal impact of the proposed changes to the 2018-2019 School Year Negotiated Agreement between the District and the Nevada Classified School Employees Association, an amount of $36,480.40. The Board reviewed changes in Article 25 and 23-5 in the Nevada Classified School Employees Association agreement and voted unanimously, with one abstention from Trustee Pinder, to ratify the agreement.

One of my most favorite stories Paul told dated back to the late 60s or early 70s and it revolved around him killing a deer way out in the mountains. Naturally the deer ran down into a deep canyon and died. Knowing that it would take him forever to haul it out he devised an awesome plan. After preparing the deer he drove back to NAS Fallon and rustled up a SAR crew and they flew out and picked up the deer. Of course it was labeled as a training flight but what the hell in those days you could do that sort of thing. Rest in Peace my friend until we meet again!!Comment publication date: 4/11/24, 1:15 PMComment source: Obituary - LCDR Paul N PflimlinComment author: THughesComment text: So sad to hear. I remember her fondly from the days of my youth at Northside Elementary, many years ago. She and Mrs. Rowe were my favorite office ladies! I am so sorry to hear of her passing.
