Captain’s log #2… or 437, I’m not sure anymore of anything. It’s Thursday night and we are a lot closer to having the paper printing than we were last week at this time, but we still haven’t perfected the timing. The choreography, so to speak. There are a lot of moving parts to this paper-making business.

This is the most fun we’ve ever had, we all agree. And a great many things have gone right, but the things that have gone wrong – oye!!

We haven’t been able to get the subscription spot on the website working which is making me straight crazy. How in the world will we keep you all if we don’t gather you up for subscriptions, how will we keep the paper alive?!? My very hair is on fire.

But Leanna is the voice of reason and belief. “Believe” she says – it’s all going to work out fine. And then I checked the mail today and we got our first mail-in subscription, for a full year. So happy. I’m going to frame a picture of it because it feels even better than when you make your first dollar. Someone else believes in us too.

And then there was the mail merge test. Shaking my head. We did a batch of 75 to see how it would work and ended up with 75 versions of a 28-page document. Which promptly locked up all computer systems. So we made labels for the mail versions and had a labeling party while we watched the presidential fiasco.

Today we had to S-O-S Denise for emergency Courtyard cookie delivery, right after I fell out of my desk chair, severely wounding my tailbone. It’s a super fun wheel around desk chair and I leaned-while-wheeling, which is a horrible idea. Thank you, Denise, for saving the day and thank you Deb for the sugar-infused feel better.

We really are having a big time and we’re grateful for all your feedback and support. Stay tuned for the subscription information online, it looks promising for next week. Please drop me a line and let me know what you think of the paper – what could we add, what could we change, what do you love. [email protected]

Keeping you posted…

Rach

Comment author: BonnieComment text: Good Luck to all of you. I mean this sincerely. My family fought the Navy for years. My parents owned Horse Creek (Pat and Linda Dempsey). They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
