CCHS Students Excel at Scholastic Art Regional Competition

CCHS Students Excel at Scholastic Art Regional Competition
Submitted by Jaime Shafer, CCHS Art Instructor —
Six CCHS art students have received awards in the Scholastic Art Regional Competition. This is a great accomplishment for our students and for our program. There were over 2,200 entries in the Northern Nevada Region alone, and this is the first time Churchill County has been represented.
Entry into this competition is very time intensive and complex, requiring multiple photographs of each piece, writing an artist statement (for the porfolio entry), and uploading information regarding sizes, weights, materials, and media.
The Holland Project in Reno will host an exhibition, open to the public, on February 22nd showcasing all Gold Key Award winners and digitally showcasing all Silver Key and Honorable Mention Award winners. The Nevada Museum of Art will host an awards ceremony (by invitation only) on March 14th. We encourage anyone who is interested to attend either event.
Entry into the Scholastic Art Competition provides students with scholarship money and national recognition.
The following students will be recognized for their accomplishments in February and March.
Macall Brown-- Silver Key Award
Rylee Buckmaster-- four Gold Key Awards, including one for her portfolio of ceramic work. Her work in the Gold Key category will move on to the national competition; six Silver Key Awards; three Honorable Mentions (For a total of 13 awards)
Jaden Davis-- one Honorable Mention
Amanda Olsen-- two Silver Key Awards; one Honorable Mention
Melanie Plasse-- one Honorable Mention
JD Steele-- one Honorable Mention

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
