The City Council meeting last week, began with a public comment from city resident Geof Knell. He mentioned to the council he would like to see more community service initiatives. Two examples he requested were programs that would deter littering, and free classes or trainings on the rules of cycling.

The meeting was also the second of three public hearings for projects to be approved through the state’s Community Development Block Grant program.

During the hearing the City Engineer, Derek Zimney, mentioned three potential projects to apply to the program with. The first was general improvements and American Disability Association improvements to the city hall’s break room and woman’s bathroom. The second was a renovation project to the cottage school to potentially become offices. The last potential project was improvements and American Disability Association additions to the southeast part of the city.

Legal and Administrative Director Erquiaga said that renovating the cottage school building for development offices would be used as a single location for organizations like the Fallon Chamber of Commerce, the Churchill Economic Development Authority, and similar groups that all have similar goals.

Director Erquiaga also said that the approval of an application for one of these three projects will depend on the work that City Engineer Zimney and Public Works Director Bryan Byrd put into each criteria requirement of the application process.

Councilwoman Frost asked if the southeast section of the city was considered low-income within the application’s plan.

City Engineer Zimney said it was and would therefore fall into the economic development requirement that is part of the criteria for the applications.

Public minutes and agendas are accessible on the City of Fallon website for more detailed information see: https://www.fallonnevada.gov/archived-meeting-agendas/

The next meeting of the Fallon City Council is scheduled for Monday, October 19, at 9 a.m., at City Hall, 55 W. Williams Avenue, Fallon. The Fallon City Council normally meets on the first and third Mondays of each month.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
