City Council Meeting Notes

City Council Meeting Notes
City Councilwoman Karla Kent, Councilman James Richardson, Third Assistant Fire Chief Eric Blakey, Second Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Myers, First Assistant Fire Chief Randy Sharp, Fire Chief Jared Dooley, and Councilwoman Kelly Frost

City Council started solemnly as Mayor Tedford read a statement into the record recognizing the service of Carson City’s mayor, Bob Crowell. He recently passed away. There was also a moment of silence for both Crowell, and the mayor of Sparks, Ron Smith who also passed away recently.

Later in the council approved, elected, and swore in four members of the Fallon Volunteer Fire Department. The council elected, and Mayor Tedford swore in Jared Dooley as Fire Chief, Randy Sharp as First Assistant Fire Chief, Anthony Myers as Second Assistant Fire Chief, and Eric Blakey as Third Assistant Fire Chief.

Councilman Richardson said he, “admired the dedication and duty they have to the community,” when he moved to elect the four into their positions.

Mayor Tedford said, “It’s an honor to approve and sanction the fire chiefs each year, and it is my honor to swear you all in. Thank you! You for service to your community and your belief in public safety.”

This meeting was also the first of three public hearings that will be held for the Community Development Block Grant program, and the proposal of what projects are eligible to apply under the qualifications of the program. No project was brought forward during this meeitng, but the next two public hearings are October 5th, and October 19th. The council held a brief discussion on past work and grants received through the Community Development Block Grant program. Councilwoman Frost asked if economic development was still a part of the eligibility of the projects. Legal and Administrative Director Erquiaga said it was, and one of the more difficult categories in the discussions of projects in the approval process.

A&K Earthmovers also received $2,349,000 from the council’s approval of their contract to complete the Front Street project.

Mayor Tedford said the project was started a long time ago and, “hasn’t been touched in many years.” He also said he was, “excited to put it before council because we have been saving money a long time to do this.”

Councilwoman Kent asked what the timeline for a completion date of the project was. Director of Public Works, Brian Byrd, said the contract was for 90 to 100 days. However, it depended on the weather in November for paving to take place.

The council also passed Resolution No. 20-08, a resolution adjusting the rates in the City of Fallon Sanitation Enterprise. Erquiaga said the rate had not been adjusted since 2007, and costs have increased to keep the systems running, and services that are provided. He also mentioned that increasing the rate would make up on debts for loans requested for the Sanitation Enterprise. The new rates take effect on October 1st.

Finally, the August report from the Fallon Police Department was given. Councilwoman Kent asked why the number of cases for larceny increased so much in the month. Captain Wenger said it was because of people working less, which caused Walmart to report more Larceny cases.

Public minutes and agendas are accessible on the City of Fallon website for more detailed information see: https://www.fallonnevada.gov/archived-meeting-agendas/

The next meeting of the Fallon City Council is scheduled for Monday, October 5, at 9 a.m., at City Hall, 55 W. Williams Avenue, Fallon. The Fallon City Council normally meets on the first and third Mondays of each month.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
