Gov says counties making progress in COVID mitigation

Today, the COVID-19 Mitigation and Management Task Force released the Weekly County Criteria Tracker and will be providing this information every Monday going forward.

Previously, the weekly criteria data was pulled every Monday and released every Thursday at the Task Force meetings. This new release date will provide the public with additional real-time updates on data trends within their communities. The COVID-19 County Tracker for September 21, 2020, is attached.

Additionally, in light of the recent progress across the state in mitigating the spread, as reflected in the improved criteria used to track elevated disease transmission, and to allow more time for the data to reflect recent gatherings and re-openings, the Task Force announced it will not be holding its regular meeting this Thursday. The Task Force will meet on its next regularly scheduled date of Thursday, October 1.

“The counties have made significant progress toward mitigating the spread of COVID-19 in recent weeks thanks to the commitment of Nevadans to follow the emergency directives and measures the Governor put in place,” said Caleb Cage, Chair of the Mitigation and Management Task Force. “I look forward to meeting next week to review the data trends in each county, at which time the data are more likely to reflect any potential impacts of bar re-openings, large gatherings, and holiday weekends.”

As mentioned last week, Governor Steve Sisolak has directed State health and regulatory officials to review the current Statewide Standards for possible relaxation of certain standards based on the positive trends, due in large part to increased and continuing compliance with the current Statewide Standards.

“Today I was thrilled to see so much progress throughout Nevada’s counties when it comes to reducing the spread of the virus,” said Gov. Sisolak. “State officials continue to evaluate current data trends and work to finalize updates to our Statewide Standards if the trends continue, and I look forward to rolling those out to the public upon completion in the near future.”

The following is a summary of the County Criteria Tracker report released today:

  • In this week’s county tracker, Elko County and Mineral County are no longer flagged for having an elevated risk of transmission of COVID-19. Clark County and Lyon County are the only two counties who meet two of the three criteria, however, they have both experienced significant progress since the last report.
  • Clark’s test positivity rate dropped 1.5% since last week (now at 7.1%), demonstrating positive returns on its compliance with Statewide Standards and comprehensive action plan previously approved by the Task Force. Clark’s case rate continues to drop and is above the threshold for the average number of tests per day.
  • Lyon County increased its average number of tests per day to 88.1, compared to 63.7 last week. They experienced a slight decrease in test positivity percentage and continue to remain below the criteria threshold for case rate per 100,000.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
