Latest Local COVID Data Posted by County

Churchill County has released the latest testing COVID testing data for the community. Since March there have been a total of 104 positive cases, with 37 currently active. There have been 66 people recovered from the virus, one person had died, and there is currently no one hospitalized due to COVID. Of those 104 positive cases, 40 have been asymptomatic.

Churchill County data and COVID resources can be found at the county resource website: https://www.churchillcounty.org/816/Public-Service-Announcements

County staff continues working with the State of Nevada to expedite testing results; however the labs are overloaded, resulting in wait times of up to seven days. According the County Manager, Jim Barbee who spoke during the County Health Board meeting yesterday, staff also continues to battle with state employees and the COVID task force over accurate testing counts.

The latest issue came about when the county re-tests someone who has tested positive, to see if they are safe to return to work. If that person is still testing positive, the state adds that positive as a whole new case. Because of that, Churchill County numbers jumped in one week from 32 to 61 active positives, but 29 of those were in the original 32. County staff then appeals to the state for a correction of the reporting.

The county continues to monitor the state reporting and has implemented a contact tracing program that helps identify and limit contact with community members who have tested positive. The premise of the tracing is to prevent the further spread of the disease.

Community members wishing to be tested or who may be experiencing symptoms of high fever, body aches, loss of taste and smell, are encouraged to participate in the county testing on Tuesday afternoons at the Fairgrounds. Call 423-6695 option 2 to make an appointment. Leave a message and staff will return the call.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
