Legislative Update -- Session Starts Monday

By Jhada Ramsey -- The 80th session of the Nevada Legislature will begin will begin Monday, February 4th. The Fallon community will be represented in the Senate by James Settelmeyer, (R) District 17 which is  made up of Churchill, Lyon, Douglas and Storey Counties. Settelmeyer also serves as Senate Minority Leader this session. Assemblywoman Robin Titus, (R) District 38, which encompasses Churchill and Lyon County, will represent the community in the Assembly. Senator Settelmeyer is a member of the Commerce and Labor, Finance, and Growth and Infrastructure Committees. Assemblywoman Titus will sit on Health and Human Services, Ways and Means, and the Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Mining, committees during the 2019 session.   Assembly floor sessions are held at 11:00 a.m. and Senate floor sessions at noon.  Committee meetings for both houses are held in the morning and afternoons. There are ten Assembly committees; Commerce and Labor Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1:30 p.m. Education Tuesday and Thursday 1:30 p.m. Government Affairs Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. Growth and Infrastructure Tuesday and Thursday 1:30 p.m. Health and Human Services Monday, Wednesday, Friday 1:30 p.m. Judiciary Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. Legislative Operations and Elections Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 p.m. Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Mining Monday and Wednesday 4:00 p.m. Taxation Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 p.m. Ways and Means Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. The ten Senate committees are: Commerce and Labor Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30 p.m. Education Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30 p.m. Finance Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. Government Affairs Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 1:30 p.m. Growth and Infrastructure Tuesday and Thursday 1:30 p.m. Health and Human Services Monday and Wednesday 4:00 p.m. Judiciary Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. Legislative Operations and Elections Monday and Wednesday 4:00 p.m. Natural Resources, Agriculture, and Mining Tuesday and Thursday 4:00 p.m. Revenue and Economic Development Tuesday and Thursday 1:30 p.m. The website for the Nevada Legislature is https://www.leg.state.nv.us/ Jhada Ramsey is a Junior at Churchill County High School.  She plays softball for the Greenwave and the Nevada Lightning, a traveling team in Reno.  She wants to go be an attorney and practice law as a prosecutor.
