NAS Fallon Moves into Phase 2 Today

First in the Navy to be allowed to relax COVID-19 restrictions
NAS Fallon Moves into Phase 2 Today

Captain Evan Morrison hosted a live social media briefing on June 5th to explain how Fallon Naval Air Station will move into relaxing facility closures and move into Phase 2, effective Monday, June 8th. Encouraging patience with the process and explaining that the opening process will be a “learn as we go/trial and error” effort, and base leaderships fully expects to make adjustments throughout the process.

Morrison announced that the Commissary remains open for all patrons with normal hours, as well as the Navy Exchange. Lincoln Military Housing playgrounds, dog parks, and splash parks will open today, as well as the bowling alley on every other lane basis. He said the CPO Club will open Thursday as will Silver State with a soft opening on Wednesday. Other eateries; Take Five, Flight Line Express, and the King Pin will all open for in house dining at 50% seating capacity. The tailor will open on June 10th and the barber will open on June 24th, both by appointment only. The fitness center and aquatics will be open for active duty only, but the community center is open for all. This will be for the next two weeks and will then be re-visited.

For more details on other facilities, see the poster graphic or visit the base Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Naval-Air-Station-Fallon-126636387376605 where all communications will be posted.

Executive Officer Chastain assured the community that the base is well stocked with sanitary supplies to implement the opening. Both he and Captain Morrison remind personnel that there may be situations during the process that require leadership to pull back some of the openings, and they encouraged everyone to avoid large crowds.

Token Barnhouse who manages Morale, Welfare, and Recreation mentioned that his department is hiring for many of their positions and those announcements can be found on the website at: https://fallon.navylifesw.com/about/jobs

Chastain said “there are some countries that have taken advantage of the situation during this world-wide pandemic and it doesn’t take genius to figure out that our navy is going to be tested soon. I’m stoked to know that we’re here to support our fleet to make sure we have the most razor-sharp spear to send over the horizon and I’m thankful for all the folks out there every day who make sure we can do that.”

“We have a lot of outside units that come into to train,” said Morrison. “We want to make sure we are keeping the community safe. Our most critical assets are our people.”

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses. Her dad Ted was my dad's brother. I never knew Ted or Betty, but I wish I did. I am 73 and live in IL. I am building my family tree and see where Betty has fit in. Blessings to you Curt and family.
