Commentary -- Doug Busselman

Busselman has been involved in Nevada politics long enough to speak with authority on every issue, although he would never say that about himself. He writes from Reno and here he introduces us to the term "ologist" -- as in biologist or epidemiologist...
Commentary -- Doug Busselman

Late yesterday afternoon, I watched the Governor’s news conference where he was joined by the various panel of experts (most of who are ologist for things that I didn’t know there were areas to be an ologist for). My take home message from this event, which had been to let us know the plan going forward in reopening our economy, is that schools are closed for the rest of the school year and that the ologist have been spending a lot of time reviewing the various models for figuring out how bad things could be, but didn’t actually get that bad – because supposedly most of us did an outstanding and wonderful job of going to our houses and staying there since that’s what the Governor ordered us to do.

As far as “the plan”…it has been something that has been worked on by the experts of the Governor for quite a while and in this plan that will be coming out in some undetermined time in the future will be considered, based on the numbers that the ologist figure out in a complicated fashion with many variables that you can’t even comprehend unless you’re an ologist of some type.

We’re currently at step “0” of a multi-leveled plan and when the ologist figure out the calculations from the complicated models that they use with various details and variables that non-ologists can’t understand, we might move to step 1, but there’s not time-table other than we’ll be told when those unspecified criteria are surpassed. It also sounds like, since we’ve been so compliant in doing what we’re told we must do – more state experts will be working on spelling out the requirements that must be carried out in the future, when we’re told that step 1 might be acceptable to be considered.

Since I’m not actually a practicing, professional news journalist – and because I’m probably biased in different ways than some of those who are – I might not have gotten the points of the news conference that I watched and listened to…so don’t take my account for the outcome as being the actual information which the Governor and his team of ologist presented…

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
