Primary Election Details and Reminders

The primary election for the 2020 election is about to get underway in light of adjustments being made due to the COVID-19 situation. The primary election will be held by mail this year, and ballots are scheduled to be mailed to all active registered voters beginning April 30, 2020.

According to Erin Montalvo, who manages the elections section at the clerk’s office, “Voters are being encouraged by the Churchill County Clerk to check their registration by contacting the office at 775-423-6028 or emailing [email protected].” She said voters can also check their registration at: https://www.nvsos.gov/votersearch/

The Nevada Secretary of State, Barbara Cegavske, announced on March 25th that the 2020 primary election, scheduled for June 9th, will be held by mail. "Because of the many uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the immediate need to begin preparations for the 2020 primary election, it became necessary for me to take action regarding how the election will be conducted,” said Cegavske. “Based on extensive conversations with Nevada’s 17 county election officials, we have jointly determined that the best option for the primary election is to conduct an all-mail election.

Important dates to remember during this mail-in process are:

May 12, 2020 is the last day to register to vote, update registration or change party affiliation by mail or by appearing in person at the Churchill County Clerk’s offices. “The Clerk’s Office is currently closed to the public,” said Montalvo, “however we encourage the public to contact our office by phone and an appointment can be made if registration cannot be done by mail or online.”

May 13 - May 21, 2020 – Online only voter registration, voter registration changes, or party affiliation changes.

www.RegisterToVoteNV.gov  “If someone registers or updates their registration online during this time period, their ballot will be mailed to them,” said Montalvo.

May 22, 2020 – June 4, 2020 voters may register, update registration or change party affiliation online but will have to appear in person at the Clerk’s Office for a replacement ballot or for new registrations, a provisional ballot. Voters must provide a valid Nevada Driver’s License or Nevada Identification Card and proof of residency.  According to Montalvo, “If someone registers or updates their registration online during this time period, they will need to appear in person at the Clerk’s Office to receive ballot. The online option ends on June 4th and the Clerk’s Office will be open for these purposes during this time period.”

May 23, 2020 – June 5, 2020 and June 9, 2020 same day in-person registration, registration updates, or party affiliation changes at the Churchill County Clerk’s Office during vote center hours. Voters must provide a valid Nevada Driver’s License or Nevada Identification Card and proof of residency. (In person registration)

If you do not receive a ballot by May 15, or you need a replacement ballot, please contact the Clerk’s Office at (775) 423-6028.  All requests for replacement ballots will be processed and mailed by 5:00 p.m., June 2, 2020.  After June 2, 2020, all replacement ballots must be picked up in person at the Clerk’s Office. “This is in the event someone does not receive their ballot or if they lose or destroy it,” said Montalvo.

The Clerk’s Office will serve as the only vote center for the June 9, 2020 Primary Election.  Vote center activities are limited to same day registration with provisional ballot voting, in-person mail-in ballot deliveries, and replacement ballot pick-ups.  The vote center will be open during the following dates and times: “These are the usual early voting times,” said Montalvo, “and this will not take place in the Commission Chambers, where early voting is normally held, voters will come to the Clerk’s Office.”

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
