First Churchill County COVID Death Reported

Fallon, NV – As the COIVD pandemic continues, Churchill County has the sad responsibility to report its first COVID-related death.

The deceased is a male in his 50s who had underlying medical conditions and was hospitalized at Renown Health last week. He passed away on Saturday, April 18.

Due to privacy concerns, we cannot release additional detailed information.

The Churchill County health district falls under the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services. The Nevada DHHS completes an exposure investigation with each positive case of COVID-19 reported in the county. Once the investigation is complete, DHHS contacts those who have possibly been exposed and provides guidance on their health situation.

Churchill County leaders are proactive in collecting COVID testing numbers on a regular basis from Banner Churchill Community Hospital, NAS Fallon, the Narag Fallon Family Clinic and the Fallon Paiute Shoshone Tribe and reports those cumulative totals as they come in on its website and social media platforms.

We urge everyone to maintain social distancing of at least six feet with non-household family, friends, neighbors and members of the public and refrain from public gatherings of 10 or more people. Distancing is vitally important, and we ask again that you adhere to the Governor’s request to stay home except for essential services like grocery shopping and medical appointments. Wearing face coverings in public is also recommended. The mask you wear protects others; the mask they wear protects you.

We remind residents who believe they have been exposed, or are exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19, to please call the Nevada Coronavirus direct line at (800) 860-0620 and complete pre-screening before going to a medical facility. You will be evaluated for your need for testing and assisted in obtaining testing if you meet the appropriate criteria.

A good source of data would be, if the county health department could get 100 antibody tests, have people submit their names if they want to be tested, then pick 100 names at random from all over the county. That way we'd know if the county population had it already hit starting in January as many people have talked about. I might have had it, one of my tenants might have had it, lots of people have been talking about some crud with a cough that doesn't quit for weeks that hit them this past winter.
