Banner Churchill Accepting Homemade Masks

Banner Churchill Accepting Homemade Masks
by Rachel Dahl -- Last week Patty Fleming heard from her son James, who works for a medical non-profit in Reno that there is a "huge need for surgical masks." She and several friends began sewing masks at home, and her husband Tom posted the pattern and call for help on Facebook. Several community members have been sewing masks for the past week. According to Samantha Stasik, the human resources business partner at Banner, because the hospital is operating under strenuous visitor restrictions, masks can be dropped off at the main entrance between Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Employees are aware that community members may be dropping off masks. Staskik also said that in the event the number of masks donated becomes too high, the hospital will share with other local healthcare organizations or the Banner sister facilities. So far, they have received ten masks. According to Laura Howard who administers the “Fallon’s COVID-19 Barter” Facebook page, The costruction of the homemade masks with the attached pattern allows the wearer to reuse the mask by placing a disposable insert in the backside of the mask. A pattern for the masks can be found here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=S9RWII2-5_4 A link to more information can also be found on the JustServe.org website at: https://www.justserve.org/projects/0ae9881c-a2c6-4e08-b96c-8a032fe8bca2                     We need your support now more than ever -- as our small business community is hit, so is our advertising support -- if you are able to support local, independent news, now is the time to click here to contribute to The Fallon Post, so we can continue to bring you up-to-the-minute information. We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
