UPDATE: Fallon Police Say All Clear

UPDATE: Fallon Police Say All Clear

City of Fallon Police Department says the situation has been taken care of and residents can return to their homes. City sources say the NAS Fallon EOD is in possession of the suspicious materials. They were able to render the material safe for transport and will destroy it according to normal regulations.

By Rachel Dahl —

In an abundance of caution, the City of Fallon Police Department has cleared several city blocks south of Stillwater Avenue and east of Maine Street, asking neighbors to evacuate their homes, upon finding what appears to be old dynamite in a house on Humboldt Street.

According to a neighbor, Neil McElrath, who lives on Esmeralda Street, police asked him to evacuate his home because they were responding to a report of  a deceased person in a home on Humboldt Street. According to McElrath, when emergency personnel responded they saw what looked to be explosives in the home.

A member of the staff at City Hall who asked to remain anonymous said that “emergency response personnel were in a house and saw what appeared to look like old dynamite, so in an abundance of caution the police department decided to clear a pretty good zone around that house while they waited for the Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit to handle whatever it may be.” City staff said police are not sure what is in the home, but prefer to respond with caution.

The hope is to have the situation wrapped up as soon as possible after 5:00 p.m.

“No one is in danger, but we have to be super careful,” said the city staff member.

The Fallon Post will continue to update this story as information becomes available.
