Surviving the Uniform: Dr. Gilmartin on Life Beyond the Badge -Local and Regional Law Enforcement Officers and First Responders Receive Training on Emotional Survival and How to Beat Burnout
Imagine always being in a state of hypervigilance, rarely able to relax fully. Now imagine extremely long work hours, double shifts, overtime, mandated or voluntary, and even second and third jobs. Add one of the most crucial and dangerous jobs in the country to the mix. Yes, you guessed it. You are a law enforcement officer or a first responder. 11/13/2025 01:00 AM

Dogs and Humans Have Halloween Fun
Dogs and Humans Have Halloween Fun
Local dog trainers Alyssa Grondin of Connected K9 and Will Pierce of Wags K9 Training hosted a special Halloween-themed Pack Walk in October, complete with costumes and a fun field trip to the Fernley Lowe’s! Clients and their pups practiced leash skills, explored the store together, and wrapped up with a costume contest judged by Lowe’s employees and customers. Both trainers regularly volunteer with the Fallon Animal Shelter and CAPS to help dogs find their forever homes. 11/06/2025 04:30 AM

Cancer Screening Isn’t Difficult – Don’t Put it Off
Cancer Screening Isn’t Difficult – Don’t Put it Off
Learning that a friend in her 40s had colon cancer was devastating. Despite bravely fighting and even celebrating being cancer-free, the disease came back and took her far too soon—leaving behind her husband and two young sons. Her story reinforced for me just how ruthless colon cancer can be and why early detection matters. Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Nevada, yet it’s highly treatable when caught early. Unfortunately, over 31% of adults over 45 are behind on recommended screenings. New, less invasive options like the FDA-approved Shield blood test make it easier than ever to stay on track. I encourage everyone to prioritize cancer screenings—for yourself and those you love. Learn more at cancer.org or talk with your healthcare provider. Early detection saves lives. — Randi Thompson, Public Relations Consultant, Reno 10/10/2025 02:30 PM
