The Fallon Alumni Chapter received the Nevada Alumni Association’s 2026 Outstanding Chapter of the Year award during an Oct. 22 ceremony in Reno, recognizing the local organization that brings university alumni together and raises scholarship funds for Churchill County students.
Keith and Brenda Boone and Laura and Gregg Malkovich accepted the award on behalf of the Fallon chapter during the University of Nevada, Reno alumni awards reception.
The recognition follows years of chapter activities combining alumni fellowship with support for local students pursuing higher education at UNR.
A central part of the chapter’s work is supporting the Elmo and Donna Dericco Memorial Scholarship. The chapter has organized community fundraisers to help local graduates attend the university.
In October 2019, The Fallon Post reported that an Italian dinner fundraiser raised more than $4,000, helping provide three $1,000 scholarships. More than 80 people attended, and 20 volunteers helped prepare and serve the meal.
The chapter has continued fundraising through golf tournaments and Wolf Pack-related activities. In June 2024, The Fallon Post reported that proceeds from the chapter’s golf tournament supported graduating seniors from Churchill County High School and Oasis Academy College Prep who planned to attend UNR.
The chapter advertised a June 13, 2026, golf tournament at Fallon Golf Course, with a silent auction and other fundraising opportunities benefiting the scholarship fund. A Feb. 21 bus trip to a Wolf Pack basketball game against Utah State was also advertised as a scholarship fundraiser.
Beyond those events, chapter activities have included trips to athletic events and the Reno Rodeo, watch parties, and mystery bus excursions. The gatherings give local alumni and supporters opportunities to remain involved with the university while contributing to the chapter’s scholarship efforts.
Brenda Boone, who earned a master’s degree in education from UNR in 2007, serves as chapter president. The chapter meets quarterly and welcomes University of Nevada, Reno alumni interested in reconnecting with fellow graduates and supporting local scholarships. Those interested in participating or learning about upcoming meetings may contact Boone at [email protected].
