Eighty-eight golfers on 22 teams turned out Aug. 15 at Fallon Golf Course for a tournament benefiting the Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department, raising significant funds to support department operations.
First Assistant Fire Chief Randy Sharp and his son, Eddie Gelineau, chaired the fundraiser, a four-person scramble that included prizes, raffles, food and drinks, along with longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin contests.
Randy Sharp said it was a beautiful day for golf and expressed the department’s appreciation for the community support. He stressed that the fundraiser would not have been successful without its sponsors.
Major sponsors included Safety-Kleen, Care Flight, Cheek Construction, the City of Fallon, Churchill County, McFadden Electric, Roger Lambert Construction, Omaha Track, Hiskett & Sons, and Mike Munoz.
Sharp also offered special thanks to Fallon Golf Course and its crew for their efforts in preparing the course and providing an excellent meal.
The self-sponsored team of Bryce Sauer, Ross McKinnell, Jansen Malama-Gomes, and Andrew Palmer took first place.
Sharp also emphasized that all members of the Fallon/Churchill Volunteer Fire Department are volunteers.
The department responds to more than 500 fire and extrication calls annually and protects the City of Fallon and greater Churchill County. It was the first volunteer fire department in the nation to receive an ISO Class 1 rating and has maintained that rating since 1995, according to Churchill County. ISO public protection classifications range from 1 to 10, with Class 1 the highest rating.
