The Hearts of Gold Quilters, a local hobby group dedicated to preserving the tradition of quilting, is raising funds this year to benefit the Northside Early Learning Center’s pre-kindergarten children. The group’s annual raffle quilt, which will be featured at the upcoming Cantaloupe Festival from August 28-30, 2026, is themed in honor of America’s 250th birthday.
Proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will help provide napping quilts for the young students at Northside. Tickets for the raffle will first be available at the Home and Garden Show at the Fallon Convention Center, scheduled for April 11-12, 2026.
Founded in 1998, the Hearts of Gold Quilters has grown to around 30 members and meets every Monday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Oasis Community Church. The group welcomes new members of all skill levels, noting that even those without a sewing machine can join. “If you have always wanted to quilt and want to get started, this is a great opportunity,” said member Samantha Horning.
The quilters not only create an annual raffle quilt to help purchase supplies, but also donate handmade quilts to children facing devastating illnesses, hospitalized youth, and families who have lost their homes to fire.
“Our focus is on preserving and encouraging the skill of quilting,” Horning said. The group encourages anyone interested in sewing or quilting to join their weekly sessions, emphasizing their commitment to community service and the joy of crafting together.
