Fallon’s Fourth of July celebration brought the community together in full spirit, with packed streets, blue Nevada skies, and a contagious energy that stretched from the Chamber of Commerce’s annual parade to the last sweet slice of pie. Kids dashed for candy as water cannons fired from floats, and a strong showing from NAS Fallon reminded us all of the service members, past and present, who protect the freedoms we came together to celebrate.
Rear Admiral Rick Burgess, Commander of the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center, joined the parade route, while other sailors represented NAS Fallon during Independence Day festivities at Greater Nevada Field with the Reno Aces.
Locally, the community tipped its hat to creativity and tradition with the annual pie-baking contest and parade awards.
Held in advance of the 4th of July, the contest added a delicious layer of desserts to the celebration. Octavia Merritt won top honors with her Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie, with Kathy Fraker’s White Christmas Pie earning her the second place slot, and Haylee Brenneis’ Stars & Stripes Floral Delight in third.
Parade standouts for this year’s theme – “America the Bee-autiful,” included Fallon Jr. Rodeo Queen Chanci Macedo (Best Mounted Individual), 3 Point Ranch and Transport (Best Agriculture), and Cycling Uncle Sam (Most Patriotic). The Chamber Choice Award went to the Pregnancy Care Center of Churchill County, and Antique Automobile Club of America, Fallon Chapter, rolled off with Best Automobile.
Other honorees included Walker Lake Disposal, Holt Bogdanowicz, Carson & Eureka Railway, Dairy Farmers of America, Keith Wood’s “Military Mule,” and the Toi-Ticutta Powwow Club and Powwow Fitness Group.

Each float, flag, and face was a reminder: we are fortunate to live in a country where we can gather in peace, and fortunate still to have a community, neighbors, veterans, and volunteers who make celebrations like this one possible.
