Infant Located Safely Following Amber Alert; Mother in Custody

UPDATE April 1: Chelsea Daniels was arrested by the Fallon Police Department on charges of first-degree kidnapping and child abuse or neglect for alleged offenses committed within the city’s jurisdiction related to yesterday's Amber Alert. She also faces additional charges from the Churchill County Sheriff’s Office, including child abuse or neglect and failure to stop on the signal of law enforcement.

A 10-month-old boy at the center of an Amber Alert was found safe Monday afternoon after Churchill County deputies located a suspect vehicle in the hills outside Fallon and took the child's non-custodial mother into custody.

The Amber Alert was activated Monday after the child was reportedly taken around 8 a.m. by Chelsea Daniels, who authorities said was armed and driving a black 2006 Ford Explorer with Nevada license plate 714-S57.

Churchill County Sheriff's Office released information at approximately 4:10 p.m. indicating that following the alert issued by the Nevada Department of Public Safety, law enforcement received several citizen tips about vehicles matching the general description of the suspect’s SUV. One of those tips reported a black Ford SUV on the grounds of Lahontan Elementary School. The school was placed on immediate lockdown until officers confirmed the vehicle was not involved."

Another tip provided a possible location of the suspect’s vehicle, which aligned with earlier cellphone pings from Daniels’ phone. Churchill County Sheriff’s Office patrol and investigations units were already in the area when they spotted a black Ford Explorer traveling down a mountain road.

A marked patrol unit attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield. Deputies activated emergency lights and sirens and followed the SUV until it eventually came to a stop. Daniels was taken into custody at the scene, and the child was found unharmed inside the vehicle.

“We are grateful for the citizens who called in with sightings and information,” said Churchill County Sheriff Richard Hickox. “The successful resolution of this situation is a prime example of a collaborative effort by many agencies striving toward one goal—and that is the safety of the public.”

Hickox also thanked the agencies involved in the response, including the Fallon Police Department, Department of Public Safety, Nevada Division of Wildlife, Nevada Highway Patrol, and Banner EMS.

“I am beyond grateful that this little boy is safe and that this situation was resolved peacefully and quickly,” Hickox said.

Daniels was booked on multiple charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
