CCHS

ACT prep sessions are in full swing at CCHS, with 59 students attending last week’s math sessions led by teacher Jake Lewis. Vice Principal Reema Pulifser noted the high turnout. Each week, different teachers focus on specific subjects to prepare students for the ACT on February 25. This year, the ACT will be administered on paper, returning to the traditional format at students’ request. “We highly recommend that our students take advantage of every opportunity offered to help them reach their goals,” Pulifser said. Prep sessions are held Wednesdays and Thursdays during seminar or from 12-12:30 for those without scheduled classes.

CCMS

Last week, CCMS recognized office secretary Brittany Pimental and CTE teacher Frank Whitten for their outstanding contributions. Pimental, described as “like sunshine.” “Brittany is so welcoming and positive with all the staff, students, and parents,” said one staff member. Students commended Whitten for always supporting their success. Both staff members exemplify the CCMS spirit, creating a great environment for learning and growth.

Tricia Strasdin’s 5th-grade class studied ecosystems by classifying organisms as producers, consumers, or decomposers. Students explored energy flow and examined Nevada’s unique food webs, gaining a better understanding of local plants and animals.

Jenny Mitchell’s 2nd-grade class tackled MAPS testing last week after setting personal and academic goals for 2025. Students aimed to improve reading, math, and more. “I really think this helped them mentally prepare for their MAPS testing. Goal-setting got them focused and excited,” Mitchell said, noting her class’s improved MAPS scores. Main photo above.

Jill Ackerman’s kindergarten class read Sneezy the Snowman to practice sequencing, retelling, and cause and effect. Students also worked on addition and enjoyed sensory play. “We snuck snowmen into everything we did. We even got to craft a fun melted snowman and made pretend snow for fun sensory play to end the week,” Ackerman said.  Pictured above right: Jace Hawkins, Leon Clements, Allison Hail, and Cloud Rosario show off their melted snowman craft project.

Comment author: BonnieComment text: Good Luck to all of you. I mean this sincerely. My family fought the Navy for years. My parents owned Horse Creek (Pat and Linda Dempsey). They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
