The Last Book Party by Karen Dukess
It is 1987 and aspiring writer Eve Rosen is languishing in an unexciting assistant job for a New York publisher. She’s not really writing but she talks about it a lot. She also falls under the shadow of her brilliant mathematical brother. She’s sort of stuck.
An invitation to a party on Cape Cod with the bohemian literary group instead of the Jewish New Jersey group her family hangs out with sets her on the path for change. She also comes to terms with and develops a better understanding of her family.
This is a debut novel and Dukess is a talented writer. I was a bookseller in 1987 so the book and literary references brought that time back to me in a rush. A good summer read.
Carol Lloyd is the Director of the Churchill County Library. She has been working and enjoying books for a long time.

Comment text: A little disappointed in the parade and fireworks. With it being America's 250th Birthday, there should have been some more history, as in pioneers walking behind wagons.....etc. And as for fireworks, should have been more spectacular, like seeing hearts, and smiling faces and an American flag all dine in fire works.
