The Fallon 1908 Fastpitch 10U girls’ softball team is set to play their first tournament over Memorial Day weekend in Fernley. The tournament will take place at the Out of Town Park, with games beginning Saturday morning. The team, coached by Chris Cline and Brett Wickizer, will face off against the NV Hotshots from Minden, the NV Sharks from Carson City, and the Fernley Blaze. Three pool play games are scheduled for Saturday, followed by 2-3 bracket games on Sunday, leading up to the championship.

The team has 12 tournaments scheduled for the season, from May to November, with tournaments in Carson City, Gardnerville, Fernley, and the Reno/Sparks area.

Alisha Carrasco, a parent of two team members and vice president of the nonprofit Fallon 1908 Fastpitch Travel Club, explained that the 1908's offer a more competitive level of fastpitch for Fallon girls competing against local travel teams in Northern Nevada and Northern California. The year-round team practices during winter when they are not actively competing.

“We have an established 10U team and are adding on an 8U summer team and 12U summer-fall team,” stated Carrasco. “If we can find the coaches, we'd be more than happy to include older ages, which is what we get a lot of inquiries about.” This is the 1908's second year as an established organization, and they hope to continue providing this opportunity to local girls through the years and grow softball in Fallon. Carrasco said the club encourages all their girls to play and support the Churchill County Youth Softball Association (CCYSA).

Several community members have contributed to fundraisers, making tournament softball possible for local youth girls. The 1908 10U team would like to express their gratitude to their sponsors: The Sons of the American Legion Post 16, Centerline Company, Panelized Structures, Premier Design & Build Group, New Millennium, Pizza Barn, Alston Construction, Benhams Diesel, Carniceria Mendoza, Brad Stokes State Farm, Marshall’s Septic, La Fiesta, Tedford Tire & Auto Services, J&K Llamas, Sheldon’s Pest Management, Hiskett & Sons, Hotwire Electric, LLC, Julio’s Mexican & Italian Restaurant, and Cheek Construction.

The CCYSA is headed by Dustin Prinz, who serves as president. Alisha Carrasco is vice president, Katie Wickizer is treasurer, Lyndsey Cline is secretary for 10U, Kara Tippet is secretary for 12U, and Brittany Deems leads the fundraising committee.

The organization is also seeking 12U athletes for the older girls’ teams and is preparing to start an 8U team. CCYSA is proud to offer a competitive level of softball to the area’s young athletes.

It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking. I am Kelly’s sister, Charlene B Johnson and his daughter is Trisha Benjamin. The Fallon Tribal Police acted unconscionably by not notifying the family first. This is devastating for us especially after speaking a little bit with the officer handling the report and The Chief Juarez. Who refused to give me any further details or to at least let me know the FBI was notified and that they were investigating if my brothers death was foul play or not. My understanding is the FBI is called when a body is found. Tribal Chairwoman please do the family a solid and make sure the finding of my brother was due to suspicious circumstances.Comment publication date: 3/24/26, 1:55 PMComment source: Fallon Paiute-Shoshone Tribe Reports Death Under InvestigationComment author: Nicole GalbraithComment text: Farren - I just saw that you aren’t here with us. I am completely in shock! I met you and hung out with you so many years ago with Jer, and Eden. I honestly can’t believe you are gone…..you were a wonderful human being, with a HUGE heart and soul. Hearing this makes my heart break! You are forever in our hearts, and I can say I feel blessed that I was able to know you!
