P.E.O. Chapter D, Fallon, is proud to announce the recipients of its 2023 Phyllis McCallum Memorial Scholarship to CCHS graduates Brisa Ugalde and Camille Winder. These young women were chosen after the Scholarship committee painstakingly read and evaluated all applicants from both CCHS and Oasis Academy.

A Scholarship of $1,000 was awarded and presented to each girl by local Chapter President Becky Mathews. Ms. Ugalde is enrolled at Western Nevada College as a science major and aspires to be a veterinarian. She is the daughter of Maria and Bernardo Ugalde of Fallon.

Ms. Winder is studying Pre-nursing at Brigham Young University and is the daughter of Sonja and Walter Winder of Fallon.

With the community's support, two $1,000 scholarships a year to chosen high school graduates and one $500 scholarship a year to a qualified woman attending WNC were awarded. The local chapter sponsors two fundraisers a year. Each spring, a fun evening is planned for a movie night at the Fallon Theatre, and plans are in full swing for the second annual Chuckwagon Dinner/Dance/Silent Auction set for November 4. Tickets will be available soon at Kent’s Supply Center, 260 N. Maine. For more info, contact Michele at (775) 427-4996.

The P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) has been celebrating women by helping them achieve their educational goals for over 150 years. What started with a bond of friendship among seven women in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, is now one of North

America's oldest women’s organizations.
Congratulations to Brisa and Camille. As they move forward with their education, P.E.O. is thrilled to be a small part of helping them achieve their dreams.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
