Outgoing County Commissioners Assemblyman Greg Koenig and retiring Pete Olsen were honored this week with a community gathering complete with speeches, memorabilia, and food and drink served by Maine Street Café and the Rusty Canteen.
Wednesday night, County Manager Jim Barbee made remarks about his experiences working with the commissioners, mentioning several memorable events that took place during the commissioners’ terms. The Big Dig, COVID, and the Navy Expansion topped the list, with Barbee commenting that in the nearly five years he has been in his position and a member of the community, it had been an honor to work with both men.
Mayor Ken Tedford also spoke, presenting plaques of recognition to the commissioners and thanking the, for the good working relationship between the City and the County. “Not all communities get along like we do. We are lucky to have one city and one county, like some communities have several cities or general improvement districts which will complicate relationships and often leads to conflict. We are blessed to have this relationship and to work so well together,” said Tedford. “I have prayed with these men for our community and our families, and I will count them as friends always.”
Barbee presented Koenig and his wife Terra with flowers and a framed photo of the Rafter 3C for his legislative office. Olsen and his wife, Tami were presented with flowers and a framed photo by Marie Nygren of Wonder Peak in remembrance of his leadership during the Fallon Range Training Complex expansion and the work he has done over the past 12 years.
