Juniors and Seniors Semester Starts August 8

Summer is coming to an end early for Oasis Juniors and Seniors. The college prep students will begin mini-session college classes on Monday, August 8 at the WNC campus.

Juniors are taking Introduction to Communications and Seniors are either taking Music Appreciation or Art Appreciation. All classes are degree requirements and assist students in furthering their progress toward an associate’s degree.

“Counselor Andy Lenon and I are very excited to get this year started with the three-week mini sessions for our Juniors and Seniors,” said Academic Advisor Lisa Swan. “These mini sessions allow Oasis students to just take four classes instead of five their first semester, which allows them time for their athletics and club participation. They are also a great way for our Juniors to see what a college class is like and the expectations of college classes before jumping into their fall semester.”

Each course is an intense three-weeklong class, and prepares the students for the rigor of the semester ahead. The regular fall semester will be the first term for juniors to experience a complete twelve-unit college course load.

Students must be dropped off by 8 and picked up by 11 through the drive thru line. Do not use the gates.

“We are so excited to be able to offer kindergarten practice day this year. Prior to Covid this was an event that was looked forward to by all,” said Kindergarten teacher Janet Renfroe. “We are excited to bring this unique opportunity back to Oasis. Being able to get that personal time and connection with the kindergarten students without all the hustle and bustle of the other classes is a great way to calm the nerves and tears prior to the first day of school.”

Oasis Academy Welcomes Notts

Married teachers Dane and Kelly Nott, along with son Trevor Nott will join the Oasis family for the 2022-2023 school year. Dane Nott will be teaching fifth grade, wife Kelly will teach fifth, and son Trevor will teach third grade. The trio has taught every grade from first through middle school during their careers.

Teaching is a second career for Mrs. Nott. After working as a hotel manager, Nott found her passion for teaching after volunteering in her daughter’s kindergarten classroom. She has now taught for twenty years.

Mr. Nott is a proud veteran of the US Army with duty stations at Fort Bragg, NC as well overseas service with the 2nd Infantry Division. He continued his military service with the Nevada National Guard while working in business before finding his passion as a teacher. He is a lifetime learner with three college degrees.

Both enjoy spending time with family and friends along with being outdoors camping, hiking, riding motorcycles, and gardening.

“It is quite something to have 3 members of a family coming to work for us!” said Chief Academic Officer Rochelle Tisdale. “They each have a unique passion for education and are dedicated to students and their learning. We are thrilled to have them join our Bighorn family!”

“We look forward to becoming part of the Oasis Academy and this amazing community,” said Dane Nott.
