Today is Community Fun Day

Today is Community Fun Day
by Rachel Dahl -- In a world of cell phones, texting, social media, drugs, and a plethora of other distractions, it has become increasingly difficult to raise children and keep families together. In an effort to promote healthy, fun activities that bring families together, the City of Fallon and Churchill County have joined together with the Fallon Chamber, Banner Community Hospital, Jeff’s Copy Express, Churchill Coalition, and Holiday Inn Express to sponsor “Community Fun Day” today at the City/County Gym at 321 Venturacci Lane, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be activities both indoors and out including putting golf, crafts, a book corner, making and flying kites, riding bikes, and a raffle that wraps up a months’ worth of activities that have been held throughout April in conjunction with the Pinwheels for Prevention. Shannon Ernst, Social Services director for the county has been involved with this family event for the past four years. Her department conducts a community survey each year that has consistently shown people have the perception that “there is nothing to do” and activities in the community are “too expensive.” She said that the community fun day is designed to showcase the different things there are to do with children of all ages. “We hope people will take advantage of these fun, free activities.” “Churchill County and the City of Fallon have really come together to provide free and low-cost events for families to be involved together,” said Ernst. “We hope this close-out event spurs families to spend time together and do more together and know that our community has a lot of activities throughout the year.” According to Andrea Zeller, director of the Community Coalition, “between devices and other distractions we are not seeing families as connected as they used to be.” She says that eating meals together and spending time together is key to raising healthy children. “Eating together and spending time together, talking to your kids is still the most important thing you can do.” Mayor Tedford agrees and says, “Community Fun Day is a pecial day that promotes family and community bonding and wellness. It is a day that encourages everyone to come together to develop a true sense of community, which is essential in establishing a healthy City to live, work, and play in.” The community is invited and encouraged to attend the events this afternoon and enjoy time together.   Never miss a meeting or community event – keep an eye on the community calendar at https://www.thefallonpost.org/events/ If you like what we’re doing, please support our effort to provide local, independent news and contribute to The Fallon Post, your online news source for all things Fallon.

We reached out to the writer/submitter and got this info back...hope it's helpful. PBM: Pharmacy Benefit Managers are pharmacies that are owned by insurance companies. (CVS is one.) They negotiate with drug makers to get reduced pricing for medications, but they historically have not passed along those savings to patients. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/ftc_gov/pdf/pharmacy-benefit-managers-staff-report.pdf MFN: Most Favored Nation pricing is a policy that means a country agrees to offer the same trade concessions (like tariffs or price reductions) to all member nations of the World Trade Organization (WTO). When applied to pharmaceuticals, it could disrupt global access, deter innovation, and obscure the deeper systemic issues in American health care. https://petrieflom.law.harvard.edu/2025/05/22/the-global-risks-of-americas-most-favored-nation-drug-pricing-policy/Comment publication date: 6/23/25, 7:47 AMComment source: L E T T E R TO THE EDITOR
