2022 Nevada Primary Election Results

Nearly four and a half hours after polls closed Tuesday night, unofficial results were released for the 2022 Nevada Primary Election. Once all mail-in ballots are counted, the results will be finalized, and Churchill County Commissioners will officially canvass the votes on June 22 in a 4:30 p.m. meeting.

For Churchill County voters, in Senate District 17, Dr. Robin Titus has a lead over Assemblyman Jim Wheeler 53-47 percent with approximately 76 percent of the vote counted. In Assembly District 38 the race between Lyon County Commissioner Vida Keller and Churchill County Commissioner Greg Koenig has Koenig leading 57%-43% with more than 95 percent of the vote counted.

For Churchill County Commissioner, District 2, Myles Getto is leading Tom Riggins with 1,468 votes to 1,247 votes, with mail-in ballots yet to be counted. Kenny Harmon received 675 votes and Tanya Freeman received 294.  

In the highly competitive U.S. Senate Republican primary Adam Laxalt won 16 of 17 counties beating newcomer, Captain Sam Brown with 56.1 percent to 34.1 percent of the vote. Brown took Douglas County. Incumbent Democrat U.S. Senator Catherine Cortez Masto easily defeated her competitor, Corey Reid. In the U.S. House races, incumbent Republican Mark Amodei defeated his closest competitor Douglas County Commissioner Danny Tarkanian 54% to 33%.

Democrats went with the incumbent Steve Sisolak in the race for governor, and of the 15 Republicans running in the Governor primary, Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo beat Las Vegas Attorney Joey Gilbert 38 percent to 27 percent but only won in three counties statewide. Dean Heller garnered 13.5 percent of the vote.

For Lt. Governor, Democrats chose Elizabeth Cano Burkhead and Republicans chose Stavros Anthony over Tony Grady. In the Secretary of State race, Republicans chose Jim Marchant, while Democrat Francisco Aguilar was uncontested. Michelle Fiore won the State Treasurer race over Manny Kess, and Democrat Zach Conine was uncontested. For State Controller, Democrat Ellen Spiegel won her primary with Andy Matthews running uncontested in the Republican race. Finally, for Attorney General, Sigal Chattah defeated Tisha Black in a hotly contested Republican primary and will face Democrat incumbent Aaron Ford who handily beat challenger Stuart Mackie 80 to 13 percent.

The Churchill County School Board race will be held on November 8, with seven on the ballot and four open seats.

Churchill County voter turnout for the primary election was 32.55 percent with 12.19 percent voting on Election Day, 8.26 percent voting early, and 12.10 percent voting by mail-in ballot.
