Sheriff Will Help with Vulnerable Person Registry

What is the Vulnerable Person Registry?

The Vulnerable Persons Registry allows for an improved response to a request for service involving persons with a cognitive, physical, or developmental disability or condition. In addition, the registry promotes communication between vulnerable persons, the people who support them, and first responders. This information will assist first responders when responding to an emergency involving a vulnerable individual.

The registry provides quick access to critical information about a registered person, such as who to call in an emergency, a detailed physical description, and any particular sensitivities that the person may experience.
Registration is voluntary. The database is to help alleviate safety concerns for those that are vulnerable in our community.

Who is a vulnerable person?

A vulnerable person is defined as a person who may exhibit patterns of behavior that may pose a danger to that person due to medical, cognitive, mental health, or physical condition. Examples of vulnerable persons may include persons with autism, dementia, acquired brain injury, cerebral palsy that may cause a person to exhibit atypical behaviors (e.g., wandering, physical instability, inability to communicate, aggression, irrational fear, over-sensitivity to a sensory stimulus (sounds, lights, touch).

What is the goal of the Vulnerable Person Registry?

The Vulnerable Person Registry aims to provide first responders with quick access to critical information about a registered person so they can assist in an emergency. When a vulnerable person is thought to be at risk, their personal information will be shared with relevant organizations, enabling them to respond and provide effective assistance to the registrant quickly.

How do you register for the Vulnerable Person Registry?

Sheriff’s Office personnel will be at the William N. Pennington Life Center located at 952 South Maine Street on May 6th from 5 P.M. to 6 P.M. to provide information and assistance.
