The New River Township Justice Court convened Tuesday, March 15, 2022, with Judge Benjamin Trotter presiding.

According to allegations presented in two criminal complaints, Trisha Darlene Scobert and Timothy Paul Strasdin were arrested on charges of possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia on March 10, 2022, near Meadow Glen Drive in Fallon.

Both Scobert and Strasdin are in custody at the Churchill County Jail. Judge Trotter arraigned them separately on four drug-related charges: (1) Misdemeanor Use or Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, specifically glass pipes or tooter straws for snorting, punishable by up to six months in jail. (2) Possession of a Schedule I or II Controlled Substance (less than 14 grams) a first or second offense, specifically methamphetamine. The charge is a Category E Felony punishable by 1-4 years in prison. (3) Possession of a Schedule IV Dangerous Drug without Legal Prescription, namely clonazepam. The charge is also a Category E Felony punishable by 1-4 years in prison. (4) Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substance (High-Level), a first or second offense.

The Criminal Complaint alleges that Schobert and Strandin possessed 157 grams or 5.54 ounces of illicit cannabis concentrate. The maximum amount allowed by Nevada law is 3.5 grams or 1/8 ounce. The charge is a Category E Felony punishable by 1-4 years in prison.

Judge Trotter assigned the Churchill County Public Defender’s Office (CCPD) to represent both defendants. On the request of CCPD Jacob Sommer, Trotter released both Scobert and Strasdin on their own recognizance, based on the fact that neither has a significant criminal history and both have strong ties to the community.

Sommer noted a potential conflict of interest in representing Strasdin. Therefore, the Court will assign a different attorney to represent him in all future proceedings. Both defendants are scheduled to appear for status hearings on March 31.

Even though she was quiet, she still had a knack for making everyone feel seen and heard. Her kindness to me was heartfelt. I'll always remember her passion for rehoming cats and her deep love for arts and crafts. It was a joy to hear her talk about her latest mosaic or stained glass project.
