Modified Four-Day Week for Churchill School District Next Year

Modified Four-Day Week for Churchill School District Next Year

The Churchill County School District approved a school calendar on Wednesday night for the next two school years that will have students attending a modified four-day school week. The 2022-23 school calendar will begin August 15, 2022, for students and the last day of school will be May 26, 2023. During the year there will be 12 Fridays that are Non-workdays off for students and teachers.

There will be a week off during the Thanksgiving week, two weeks at Christmas for winter break, and Spring Break will be for one week on April 3, 2023. The 2023-24 school calendar will mirror the modified four-day calendar, with an adjustment for specific dates. The calendar is available on the district website at ChurchillCSD.com.

Trustees Carmen Schank and Kathryn Whitaker were opposed.

The board also approved a four-day school week for Kindergarten, with teachers working on Friday with no students.

I am a teacher of 11 years , military educated family who has to move every 4-5 years and work extra hard to start over anywhere we go. Everywhere I went, I put it my little money I made to provide for all my students. I always made sure I took care of them with the little I had. I was their Peter Pan at school, we worked hard and learned so much while having fun. I had a new born at the time I was in Fallon. He grew quickly, and as time progressed I remember having my husband care for him so I could grade and lesson plan on the weekend. Teachers do such much. There’s not enough hours in the day , to be teacher, be a counselor, multitask while making sure everyone is taken care of including paperwork and grading , it’s too much. This schedule sounds hopeful for students and teachers and humanity. All will be well in the end, life is short, try to be happy and enjoy it. Thank you Churchill for everything you do !

This is the most inconvenient thing for working families. Ontop of all the other things we have to worry about finding permanent childcare for what should be a school day. Our education requirement are getting lower and lower and wonder who our children are not prepared for the next step. By taking away one day of school is going to make a huge negative impact. All test scores will drop and the. Us parents will have to be the ones to help our children catch up. And we’re not getting paid for teaching them like you guys are.

I’m curious if those with negative comments have ever taught. Do you know what it takes to teach a class? The amount of prepping and planning. Do you know how many hours and late nights they put in? Do you know how much heart and soul good teachers put into their jobs and their students, instead of their own family? Before you say anything put yourself in their shoes and consider the hard task they had ahead of them.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud.
