City Council Approves Grant Application for Court Street Improvements

The Fallon City Council has approved the application of the Court Street and Sidewalk ADA Improvements project at the cost of $575,000 to be submitted to the Community Development Block Grant program that is managed through the Governor’s Office of Economic Development at the state level.

The CDBG grant program is administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development and then passed down to each state to be used to develop viable communities. The grant funding is awarded at the state level through a lengthy and highly regulated process to be used for housing and expanding economic opportunities primarily for persons of low and moderate income. This year the estimated amount available to rural Nevada is $3,600,000. Both the City and the County can sponsor grant applications.

“This is a good project,” said Mayor Ken Tedford. “If it can be approved it can clean up that area of town that has long been a problem because of drainage issues.”

The final hearing for the program at the local level was held last Tuesday, where the council approved sending the application to the state. Previous projects sponsored by the city were the purchase of the Fallon Theatre by the Save the Theatre organization, as well as the purchase of the lot on South Maine Street where the future building of the Fallon Food Hub will be built. Last year Churchill County was awarded CDBG funding to pay for the HVAC system in the Rafter 3C Arena facility.

In other business, the council established the fair market value for four parcels in the New River Business Park as well as an agreement with the Dickson Commercial Group, Inc. to list and sell the four parcels. The New River Business Park is located on the east side of Harrigan Road near where the DFA plant is located.

Parcel B is appraised at $576,625 and will be listed at $635,000, Parcel E is appraised at $563,361 and will be listed at $620,000, Parcel F is appraised at $58,806 and will be listed at $65,000, and Parcel J is appraised at $112,700 and will be listed at $124,000. Dicksen Commerical Group will earn a commission of 5% of the gross sales price unless there is a cooperating agent involved.

There are roughly 24 acres left available in the park, making up the four parcels. Each of the parcels could be split as needed to accommodate buyers.

The City created the Business Park in the early 90s as an economic development tool and has located both Gemini Inc. and the Dairy Farmers of America dry milk powder manufacturing plant in the park. There are also several medical offices as well as U.S. Fish and Wildlife and the Veterans clinic that have located facilities on the west side of the business park, off Harrigan Road.

Captain John Fransden gave the Police Department report for December, saying felony arrests were nearly doubled from this time last year. In December there were 15 accidents on public property and nine on private, and 157 traffic citations as opposed to 635 warnings. The Citizen Survey Results for November showed six respondents very satisfied with the ability of the employee and one with no opinion. The public was also “very satisfied” with the concern, courtesy, knowledge, problem solving ability, and professional conduct of the officers.

The Fallon City Council meets the first and third Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m.

They strung them along for years until they had no financial choice but to accept and get out. My Dad even hauled water for the Snow ranch trying to stay afloat. May God bless you all. I truly pray it works out for you.Comment publication date: 3/28/26, 9:22 PMComment source: Local Rancher Says Navy Land Expansion is Devastating His Family RanchComment author: Lynn JohnsonComment text: I remember your mother well; she was a lovely and kind woman. I see glimpses of your face in the years worn onto my dad. It makes me feel more connected to you in some way. I remember the familiar kindness from you that I know in my dad. I would’ve really liked to have a good conversation. I only have a handful of memories with you, but you were loving, and you were kind. I wish I was able to say more. If I am someone to you, I hope I make you proud. Thank you Aunt for this sweet post.Comment publication date: 3/27/26, 12:11 AMComment source: Obituary -- Randolph Floris Banovich C Comment author: RBCComment text: The Navy should reimburse the market cost of replacing the grazing land they are taking.
