This year's Grad Night Committee has been busy lining up fundraisers to support a congratulatory fun night for the 2022 CCHS seniors. With graduation fast approaching on June 3 at 7 p.m., there is only so much time left for them to raise funds for the excursion to the Coconut Bowl in Sparks where the seniors will celebrate following the conclusion of their graduation ceremonies.
The Grad Night Committee Board is comprised of four members: President Dee Towne, Vice President Norma Tousignant, Treasurer Deb Austin, and Secretary Torri Coldwell. They have been very busy with three major fundraisers confirmed to date and two others in the planning stages. Towne said, “Most of the parents working on this have worked together the whole time these kids have been in school. The football and baseball games, the Quarterback Club, we want to be involved in our kids' lives, and we want this last send-off to be something they will remember.”
The committee meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the high school cafeteria. The committee also posts all updates on their Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/fallongradnight2022 “We would love more parent participation, especially since this is the last opportunity to enjoy time with their seniors before they are gone. It's kind of bittersweet because they are graduating, but also is a great time to spend with them. The kids help out with the events right along with the parents, so it becomes something they get to do together.”
On Saturday, February 5 a Daddy Daughter Masquerade Dance will be held at the Fallon Convention Center at 6 p.m. CCHS Culinary Instructor Chase Johnson and his students will be providing the cookies. A golf tournament is scheduled for April 23 at the Fallon Golf Course with team sign-ups, tournament, or hole sponsors. Prize donations are being accepted. Teams, donors, and sponsors should contact Tammie Schemenski at 775-622-6459. May 14 will bring a Corn Hole Tournament to The Grid starting at 1 p.m., team players must be 18 years old and over. Participants should contact Janelle Wood at [email protected] to register for that event.
The committee is also working on two other events for March, a Mother-Son Movie Night at the Fallon Theater, and a Pickleball tournament at the City-County Gym at Venturacci Park. They will publish more details on these two fundraisers as the events are finalized.
Torri Coldwell said, “As parents and the school district we really want to emphasize how grateful we are to the community, and volunteers of this committee for providing opportunities for our seniors to be safe and together after graduation. We could not do this without their support. The committee has mailed donation letters to all local businesses and wishes to thank Mayor Tedford and the city for providing the labels and covering the mailing cost, as well as Dr. Summer Stephens and the CCSD for covering the printing cost.”
The Coconut Bowl in Sparks is an entertainment facility offering indoor mini-golf, arcade games, bowling, laser tag, kart races, theater rides, billiards, and snack bar selections. CCHS buses provide the transportation so that the seniors may have full run of the house from 10:00 p.m. until 2:00 a.m. Towne said, “We rent everything out and just let the seniors run and have a good time. Parents are welcome to attend, and we expect that everyone will have a great time again. Last year's graduates went there too.”
Towne encourages the junior class parents to get involved now too, as there is much to learn about putting together Grad Night events. “I wasn't involved last year, but I wish I had been so that I could have been so much more prepared. Getting involved ahead of time can provide a smooth transition for those parents so that they can be ready to take the reins next year.”
