Submitted courtesy of Christine Mori -- Dayton results: In game 1: Pitcher Franny Mori gave up 1 run, and struck out 9 batters. Fallon scored 17 runs in 3 innings. Samantha Frost went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 1 single; Emily Clyburn went 2 for 2, with 2 singles; Lainee Reid went 3 for 4 with 3 singles. In game #2 against Dayton Pitcher Lainee Reid gave up no runs, and struck out 5 players. Pitcher Shayda Lofthouse struck out 2 and also gave up no runs. The Greenwave scored 16 runs in 2 innings at bat. Destiny Tonti went 3 for 3 with 2 home runs; Trinity Helton went 2 for 2; Hudsyn Clark went 1 for 1 with a home run. This past weekend the JV girls played in the Nicole Snyder Memorial Tournament in Gardnerville. On Friday night, Fallon went 0-2 in pool play, losing to McQueen 0-5; and to Douglas 0-7. They showed well on Saturday winning 2 of 3 games; beating Wooster 20-2 in their first game, but falling to Douglas 0-13 in the semi-finals. The Greenwave came back to beat McQueen in the consolation championships 6-2. Franny Mori, Lainee Reid, Trinity Helton and Shayda Lofthouse all pitched throughout the weekend, striking out 23 batters and only giving up a couple of earned runs. The Greenwave plays Douglas at home this Thursday at the JV field at 3:45. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
