Local Shooters Take Honors in Medford

Two local shooters from the Lahontan Valley Claybreakers Scholastic Clay Shooting Team attended the Medford Gun Club Labor Day shoot September 4-6 taking top honors. Matt Ernst was among the High Overall winners, and Derek Whitten won one category and tied for first in another. 

Ernst was the Category AA winner with a score of 97, and in the Handicap division, won the 22-24.5 yard category with a score of 85. In doubles, he was the Category B winner with 96 points, and he won the junior division in singles with a score of 95 and again win the 22-24.5 category with 88 points. In the sixth event singles, he again won the junior division with a score of 97 and in Event 7 he won the 22-24.5 yard category with 82, adding up to a total of 640 points. 

Whitten won the Event 5- Handicap in the 25-27 yard category with 92 points and tied for first in the Event 7-Handicap 25-27 yard category with 88 points.

For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
