City Council Approves Two Business Expansion Applications

City Council Approves Two Business Expansion Applications
City Council -- Karla Kent, James Richardson, Mayor Ken Tedford, Kelly Smith

Author: Rachel Dahl

The City Council had their regular meeting on Monday to consider two requests for business expansions.

The first license application was for a fixed privilege license for consumption of alcohol on premises only at Silver Sage Laundromat located at 385 West Front Street for Johnny Miller. The license request was reviewed by city staff and recommended for approval. Miller has successfully held a liquor license in the past with no cause for concern said Captain Kris Alexander, of the Fallon Police Department, after which the council approved the license.

The second application was submitted by Thakshila May, owner of Woody’s, at 10 State Street, for a cabaret license to allow her to provide live music and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights. May said she intends to face the music toward Williams Avenue and will close down by 8:30 p.m. in consideration of the residential neighbors. This license application was also approved.

In other matters, Councilwoman Frost congratulated the Fallon Police Department for winning the Battle of the Badge blood donation competition last week and thanked the department for their willingness to serve the community. Mayor Tedford commented on the memorial service for former Councilman John Tewell, which he said was well-attended and a nice tribute to a long-time public servant.

After the meeting, Public Works Director Brian Byrd clarified for The Fallon Post that the temporary garbage dump facility on North Maine Street will continue operating seven days a week while the analysis on the Transfer Station building is completed. He will make sure staff at the temporary facility are willing to assist the public with unloading their garbage when help is needed. Byrd expects that within the next two weeks, he will be able to determine a timeframe for reopening the transfer station and will inform the community when repairs to the facility can be expected to be completed.

City Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 9:00 a.m.

The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
