Pioneer Crossing Brings an Imagination Library to Churchill County

Pioneer Crossing Brings an Imagination Library to Churchill County

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra (UWNNS) received a donation from Pioneer Crossing Casinos that will provide one hundred spots for children from birth to four years of age, living in Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County, and Churchill County, to receive free books mailed monthly. The monthly books are part of a program that is a partnership between UWNNS and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.  Bringing this program to strategic areas in northern Nevada will help serve under-served zip code areas and counties. A waiting list will be formed as capacity is reached due to funding availability. As children reach the age of five and graduate from the program, additional enrollment spots will become available to other children under the age of four.

“Access to books is critical in our early literacy initiatives, especially for households that don’t have easy access or the financial means to build their child’s home library,” said Michael Brazier, CEO and President of UWNNS. “It is through the generous support of key donors like Pioneer Crossing Casinos that we are able to bring this program to these communities.” Parents or guardians can complete a registration form online at www.uwnns.org/DPIL. “Pioneer Crossing Casinos are proud to be able to sponsor the Dolly Parton Imagination Library program for young children without access to the books they deserve, in Carson City, Douglas County, Lyon County and Churchill County, said Ferenc Szony, CEO of Truckee Gaming, which owns and operates Pioneer Crossing Casinos. “One hundred children under the age of five will receive a new book monthly in the mail thanks to this program offered by United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra. We are very committed to the communities we serve, including their youngest citizens.”

Pioneer Crossing Casinos has properties in Dayton, Yerington and Fernley, as well as Verdi and Henderson. Questions from families and individuals can be emailed directly to the UWNNS Community Impact team at [email protected].

Comment author: Patti Cole Comment text: Marie will be forever treasured in memories. The memories remain of a soft-spoken, seemingly unassuming but determined individual who absolutely knew what path she wanted to take in life, and followed it. Her instinctive reactions, which highlighted her steadfast level of love and caring for her family, friends and all living things found in nature, hold lessons for us all. An unexpected splash of her self-deprecating humor, coupled with uncanny timing, will always bring a smile. For me, Marie lives on in the sighting of a Black-crowned night heron in the tules, the bloom of a beautiful spring flower and, most poetically, in the struggle of wildlife photographers handling their very large camera lenses.
