An inmate who walked away from Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City, Nev., on Sunday, March 21, 2021, was arrested Tuesday, March 23, 2021, by Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in California on suspicion of homicide.
At 12:38 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2021, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a call asking for a welfare check on the resident in a single-occupant apartment. Deputies arrived on scene and initially were unable to get an answer at the door. Persistent checking revealed that an adult male subject, who was unknown to the family of the resident, was inside the home.
When deputies attempted to detain the subject, Jonathan Collin Autry, 34, became physically resistive and fought. Once Autry was detained, deputies entered the residence and found the adult male homeowner deceased. The manner in which the homicide occurred is unclear at this time and will ultimately be determined by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Homicide Detectives collected evidence and interviewed witnesses for several hours. There are no outstanding suspects. No further information is available at this time.
The identity of the victim in this case will be released by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Autry was serving 24 to 60 months in the Nevada Department of Corrections for 2 counts of Obtaining Money Under False Pretenses, 1 count Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card and 1 count Making Counterfeit Money.
